A new system of identification will launch in India by February 2011 for its citizens. The new system consists of a 16 digit number called the unique identification number. The new system will ease the citizen identification process of various government departments. The issues with fake identity will not occur after the implementation of this unique identification number. In future the unique identification number will become mandatory for driving license, passport, bank transactions as well as land transactions.

The chairman for unique identification number system in India is Mr. Nandan Nilekani who was the co-founder and co-chairman of Infosys. The unique identification will become compulsory for all identification purpose in India. The identification system in India will be digital in future. Plans are there to include biometric signature along with the unique identification number. The Biometric identification will be either iris, figure print or face identification. The Unique identification will also be used for person verification in banks. This can reduce much fraud actions in banks. The system will be implemented first in Karnataka.
