There are numerous rites and the rituals followed by the Indians. And almost all the festivals of India have a myth behind the origin of it. The Indian festivals and fairs differ in region, season and religion. There are some festivals in India which have no barriers of region, religion or season. The Republic day of India (26th January), Independence Day (15th August), Gandhi Jayanthi i.e. the birth anniversary of the father of the nation (2nd October) and Children’s Day i.e. the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru (14th November) are examples of the same. Thus India has found a new area for tourism. The festivals of India are looked forward by the foreign tourists. The Indian festival tourism is an exclusive touring experience of Indian tourism. We don’t find such a large tourism of festivals any where in the world.

All the Indians whether rich, middle class or poor, like to celebrate festivals to the most. Republic Day of India is celebrated every year with a colorful parade with tableaus from the different states and the daring display of developments by the three wings Army, Navy and Air force held near the India Gate in Delhi. The Indian Army festival celebration, Indian Navy festival celebration and the Indian Air force festival celebration are competitive to each other.

The religious festivals of India are many in number as there are lots of religions in every state. The Indian festivals like Diwali, Onam, Holi, etc. do not come under the influence of religion or state. All the religions and regions celebrate all these festivals of India equally.

The colorful festival Holy is mostly enjoyed by the Indian festival tourists and natives. The Raksha Bandhan festival creates a bond between strange man and woman a fraternal relationship. The Indian festivals occur on different dates each year as these are fixed according to the lunar calendar. Some of the religious festivals are subject to fasting, sacrifices, alms giving, etc. The religious nation India builds up its citizens God feared. The devotion of the Indians is praiseworthy. The scope Indian festival tourism is very high.

The festival tourism of India provides the festival tourist knowledge of traditions of Indian religions and way of life. The Indian festival day food items also differ from the usual days. For example the Kerala festival Onam celebrated by the people of Kerala is celebrated with a long menu of vegetarian lunch. The Indians take the festivals into their heart that they celebrate it even while being abroad. The wishing cards business in India has a good opportunity in India. It is seen that the advancement of email and mobile phones have brought down the sale of greeting cards in India.

The festival shopping in India is part of Indian shopping festival tourism. There are lots of handicraft items sold in the festival markets of India. The festival tourists to India can buy the hand made attractive and useful objects as part of Indian festival tourism. The Indian festival shopping is the major attraction of the Indian festival holidays.

The classical dances and songs performed by the dancers and singers from various parts of India are attractive to the tourism festival India. The festival holidays in India describe the cultural tourism of India and the artistic heritage tourism of India.
