Soofi paranja katha Review

Soofi paranja katha is a periodic film set more than 100 years back in malabar. It revolves round two characters mamooty(prakash) and karthi (sharbani mukherjee). Babu antony who plays soofi tells the story of the first biwi to a young story writer vineeth. But the two of them do not have any role in the film. In the first few scenes Samvritha Sunil is there but she just disapears as soon as the story starts.

An adaptation of writer K.P.Ramanunni`s first novel wih the same title Soofi paranja katha deals with the subtle relationship existing between muslim and hindu families at that age.  Sharbani Mukherji with  her green eyes, fairy like looks and sexy figure is the best choice for the role. But makeup of Sharbani Mukherji is not up to the mark because her age is clearly visible (41).

Karthy the center character of the film is born in nair family. Her uncle played by Thampi Antony understands that she is a girl with special powers by looking at her horosscope and says that her right and wrong cannot be judged by ordinary people. Belive me there are some scary scenes  like the scene in which Karthy cures her mother and scene in  which she scares off officers raiding the house. Indrans a well known comedian has  formed well in the role of karyasthan.

Karthy who is considered to be goddess in her place falls in love with a muslim merchant. After marriage she is forced to convert to islam. But she is reminded of her past when a balikallu and a idol is discovered in her house. Just to remember about her past she setups a small temple and places the idol there. You can guess what follows. The film shows how society interfears in the private life a couple and also religious hatred inside the religion. The director should be given an applause for dealing with such a controvercial subject.

Some times as  ordinary viewer we cant understand what the director means, for example why does jagathi turns into kunjunni thanpuran and goes crazy. The sudden conversion mamooty to homosexual is a part which is difficult to digest  because he only shows that triat all of a sudden in the end. This film is not a film for the masses but its for the ones who like to see films with substance.
