Bunkering Terminal at Vallarpadam Container Terminal

The forecasted Bunkering Terminal Project of Cochin Port Trust in the Port based Puthuvype Special Economic Zone is welcomed by six companies. Among the six companies of the Cochin Bunkering Terminal Project, two of them are petroleum companies. Ship bunkering means the storage of goods, in simple terms. The Cochin Bunkering project involves the transaction of fuel and other categories of oils to foreign going ships. The six Vallarpadam Bunkering Terminal Project companies are Mundra Port, Indian Oiltanking Limited, Jaisu Shipping, Bharat Petroleum, Gamon Infrastructure Limited and IMC.

The Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal is significant as the Vallarpadam Terminal will be commissioned by March 2010 and the same will cater to international ships passing through Indian waters. The Vallarpadam Ship Terminal Cochin will be a great help to all the ships passing by.

The Central Government has shortlisted the six companies in the prerequisite phase. The Central Government will scrutinize the proposals and the process is probable to be completed within a period of three months. A major stage to be completed by companies are that they have to be certified by the Security agencies, Public Private Participation Appraisal Committee (PPPC) and the Tariff Authority for Major Ports (TAMP). According to the Cochin Port Trust chairman Mr. N Ramachandran, the clearances would be granted within two or three months. The project is expected to come into force in the first half of 2010 along with the launch of Vallarpadam Transshipment Terminal Cochin.

The sum total budget of the Bunkering Terminal Project Cochin is Rs 170 crores. On the other hand, a tender for Vallarpadam Terminal function would be invited from the foreign companies for the function of the Cochin terminal. Cochin Vallarpadam project will be completed in March 2010.

All these developments will provide a good number of job vacancies for the young job seekers of Kerala and even India.
