Survay for New Mullapperiyar Dam
SURVEY STARTED IN MULLAPPERIYAR
As per the order from Central Forest Ministry, works started to build dam in Mullapperiyar. Surveying works got started by the irrigation department. This is to estimate the loss in forest area due to the emerging dam. Survey works got started from the existing dam.
The existing dam resides at a height of 873m above the sea level and the new one would locate 400m below the existing dam. Surveying covers all the 873m area. As per the surveying finishes, new building work would start. The strength of soil and rock in the place is again checked in Thiruvananthapuram Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for science and Technology. Surveying work would take 3 months to finish.
Mr. George Daniel, the Executive engineer of Irrigation department supervises the work. A private agency in Aluva takes over the surveying work for Irrigation department with total station facility. The estimation given for the above said work is about 15lacs. Also river surveying, 10 km from the dam would be finishing with other surveying works. The estimate for new dam is expected as 400 crores. As per the survey report gets available, the design for dam would be made available.
