A Malayali girl, Deepika Kurup settled in USA has been named America’s Top Young Scientist. Her scientific project impressed many people including president Obama. The award is including$25,000 and a trip from Discovery Student Adventures.
Deepika Kurup is the eldest daughter of Dr. Pradeep Kurup, he works in the Nashua university in New Hampshire and her mother Meena. Her scientific project is in the field of sustainable and cost effective water purification system. It is gives her to win the 2012 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
“It feels awesome, I put a lot of time and effort into this project and I am happy it got recognition like this” Deepika said to the media.
Through the project she implements a new technology which harnesses solar energy to disinfect contaminated water. By using this technology she pointed out that can help over 1.1 billion people around the world who lack access to clean drinking water.
The airline project of Kerala government, Air Kerala is set to have its first take off on 14 April 2013 on Vishu. Air Kerala will be the best Vishu Gift that the government has to offer for the people of Kerala. It is a promise from the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to Keralites. But he was not sure to say whether domestic or international flight will fly in the sky first. On the other hand, the domestic flights may be flying first to have enough experience of flight as a business entrepreneurship. Cochin Motor Show 2012 organised by Impresario will be held from October 18 to 21 October (11.00 am to 10.00 pm) at CIAL Trade Fair & Exhibition Centre, Cochin, Kerala. The aim of Cochin Motor Show 2012 is to create a venue for the automotive enthusiasts to know more about Indian Automotive industry and its future ahead. The first Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) was conducted in Trivandrum. The published result gives the picture that not many Kerala teachers are eligible for their job as only 8000 candidates passed the test. In the lower primary (LP) section 41610 candidates wrote the test and only 3946 were successful marking a 9.48% successors. In the Upper Primary (UP) where 58375 completed the test only 2447 passed and the successful candidates in the section was only 4.19%. And finally, in the High School section only 3.17% of the candidates passed the test. Only 1607 candidates of 20662 passed in the High School Teachers Eligibility Test 2012 Kerala. Those candidates who achieved 80% of marks in the first will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 each. And there are only 3 candidates who were eligible for this prize out the many that appeared. The three eligible candidates for the TET cash prize are Jithinraj P.A. from Wayanad, Annmary Joy from Kottayam and Minu G.S. from Trivandrum. The first three highest mark holders in the three categories of LP, UP and High Scholl are as follows.

Jacob Murickan (Auxillary Bishop, Palai diocese) at the headquarters of Syro Malabar church, Mount Kakkanad on 24th August. The Diocese of Palai came into existence on 25 July 1950 by the Bull “Quo Ecclesiarum”, issued by Pope Pius XII . The diocese has an area of 1166 square kilometre and faithful numbering 326742 The eparchy of Palai was made one of the suffragans of the Archeparchy of Changanacherry on the 22 August 1956.Mar Sebastian Vayalil was the first Bishop (1950 – 1981) of the new eparchy.He was succeeded by Mar.joseph Pallikaparampil (1981 – 2004)who himself was the auxillary bishop(1973 – 1981) to him. Mar Joseph Kallarangatt(2004 – present) is the current Bishop of the diocese to whom Fr. Jacob Muricken is chosen as the auxillary bishop . He was born on 16th June 1962 in Muttuchira. His parents were Muricken Joseph and Mary. He has four siblings; Luckose, Thomas, Mathew & Lissamma. He became the priest in 27th December 1993. His feast is on 25th July. He studied at Good Shepherd Minor Seminary, Karoor and St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary Vadavathoor. He got M.A from Kerala University. He served at the parishes of St. Mary’s Forane Churh Kuravilangad (Asst. Vicar 04-02-1994 to 12-08-1994), and on Lorethu Matha Church Chakkampuzha (Vicar 04-02-2007). He worked at various institutions of Palai Diocese like , Cause of Bl. Sr. Alphonsa, Bharanangam (14-2-1981 – 14-2-1987), Children’s Home & Priests Home, Kummannoor (4-2-1989 – 14-2-1998), Boy’s Town, Pala (14-2-1998 – 2-2-2002) etc. As being the Pastoral Co-Ordinator of palai Diocese he was in charge of: Various Departments at Shalom Pastoral Centre, Co-ordination of various pastoral activities of the Eparchy, Priests’ Homes, Ongoing formation of priests, Forane monthly recollections of Priests, St. Ephrem Formation Centre, Seminarians on Regency.

The Government of Kerala planned to step up mono rail projects in Kerala. Monorail projects an optimal solution to overcome the heavy traffic problems in roads over major cities in Kerala. National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), an autonomous research body under the State Government, to conduct the feasibility study of the proposal to build a monorail system in Thiruvananthapuram and they had found the project to be ‘feasible.’ The feasibility report concluded that the Thiruvananthapuram monorail project was feasible and should implemented on the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer mode.
