The universal star Padma Shri Lt.Col. Mohanlal showed his willingness to become the ambassador and promoter of Kerala handloom and Khadi clothing. He took this decision on the request of Kerala’s Industrial minister Elamaram Kareem. Mohanlal is ready to conduct the promotion campaign without any remuneration. Mohanlal told that it is every ones responsibility to weave the life of the weavers of handloom and khadi. The handloom workers are now leading a miserable life. The promotion campaign will increase the usage of handloom and khadi, the traditional dress of Kerala of Kerala people, thus offering a ray of hope in the life of the weavers. Mohanlal also said that he is very happy if his good will ambassadorship creates new job opportunities in the field of handloom.

Mohanlal is now a part of different social awareness campaigns. Messages to the public in his voice are having a great influence in the mind of Kerala people.
