Memu is coming to Kerala

Memu is a new term for the Malayalis. Very soon we all can see Memus throughout Kerala. Memu is the short form for Main line Electrical Multiple Unit. This is a best solution for replacing the passenger trains. The seating capacity of Memu is about 1800. Nine coaches are there in a Memu. In this single coach 100 persons can sit and another 100 need to stand. The initial starting of a Memu is much quicker. These trains are suitable for covering the distance between 3 or 4 disticts very efficiently. The Memus can create a new concept of travelling in the mind of Kerala people
The memu will start conquering the railway lines of Kerala by this Onam. There are about 47 passenger train service s in Kerala. The memu service can be installed all over Kerala except in Trivandrum-Nagercoil railway line where the electrification is not yet completed. One of the major drawbacks of the Memu is that it does not have toilet in it.
This is most welcome for commuters. Suggest to have a holistic approach considering feeder transport connections and seamless ticketing arrangements… We need to look at the bigger picture as well
