Kochi Metro Rail Project
Metro Railway is coming to reality in Kochi. The project is initiated by the state Govt. and it has consulted Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to start the work. DMRC will implement the project. The project was first proposed in the year 2006 and was expecting to be completed by 2010. But it was delayed by various reasons. The state has sanctioned Rs.159 crores to the DMRC for the purpose. The project could be completed within 3 years. And the state is waiting for the sanction from central Govt. The expected railway will be in the model of Chennai or Delhi Metro Railway. The railway has proposed to span from Aluva to Petta. And it comprises of 26 stations altogether. Connection of Aluva to Petta is expected to complete in three stages. The total project is expected to Rs. 4000 crores. The cost estimated five years ago was Rs. 2000 crores. As the first step in the implementation of the project, the busiest North over bridge will be widened.
Metro railway cooperation has formed to undertake the supervision of the project works. Moreover it will be a project of the people. A new website is launched for the public to watch news updates about the project. The corporation has conducted a contest among students for logo design in the last month and would select the most suitable one. And the winner will get a cash prize of Rs.5000. The number of vehicles in the city has increased an average annual growth rate of 13%. As it concerns the Metro Rail will help to reduce the traffic in the industry city of Kerala. And it will ease the life of the ordinary people. As Kochi is a vastly populated city, it needs a multimode public transport system. Its expecting that a lot of Job opportunities will create regarding with The Kochi Metro Rail Project.
