INSET 2010 IT fest

MG University School of Technology and Applied Science (STAS) Pathanamthitta is organizing an IT fest Inset 2010 on 4th and 5th of March 2010. The fest will be held at Aban Arcade . The inauguration will be done at 10 am on March 4th by university vice chancellor Dr. Rajan Gurukkal. The fest includes seminars, projects and competitions that bring before us the latest trends in the field of Information technology. Various cultural activities and programs are also included in the fest. There will be a class about Advanced Networking by Dr. Tanudas of V.S.S.C Trivandrum on 4th March. On 5th there will a seminar on Cyber crime and Forensics by S.P K. Sanjay Kumar. Seminar on Biocomputing by Dr.Raju is another major attraction of the day. The afternoon section is for games and competitions that add color to the tech fest.
Motor Vehicle Strike in Kerala tomorrow
The motor transport employees of Kerala will be conducting strike tomorrow (02-03-2010) against the hike in petroleum price. They are demanding the withdrawal of the price hike of the petroleum products. The strike is from 6 am to 6 pm. Employees of private buses, taxis and autorishaws will took part in this strike. The K.S.R.T.C employees will also join the strike. This was announced by the general secretary of K.S.R.T.E.A (CITU) union.
Honorary Doctorate for Resul Pookutty

Resul Pookutty, the Oscar winning sound Engineer and pride of India will be awarded with honorary doctorate by Sankaracharya Sanskrit University . Mr. Resul told media that he is very happy and felt very honored of this doctorate from the Sanskrit university. The doctorate will be awarded by Kerala Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University on March 16 2010.
Resul Pookutty is now busy with 2 projects from Hollywood.
Wimax in Kerala

People of Kerala can experience high speed wireless broadband service from tomorrow onwards through Wimax technology. BSNL is the service provider of this 4G mobile wimax technology. Kerala is the first state in which wimax is being launched. Te inauguration of this new service will be done by minister of state K.V. Thomas tomorrow (27-02-2010) afternoon at Ernakulum.
Wimax is the abbreviation for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. This the most effective and latest among the available wireless technologies. Wimax utilizes 20 MHz bandwidth spectrum which is much higher that the 3G spectrum of 5MHz bandwidth. Wireless connection with speed of up to 72 Mbps can be possible using Wimax.
Wimax promises full time fast Internet connection at a very low cost. Wimax offers a wide scope to mobile entertainment sector and promises a speed and performance which is 3 times better than the 3G.
BSNL is planning to establish 900 basic transmitting stations to provide Wimax Internet service to all district centers and important cities and selected towns. In the first phases 450 stations will be constructed. 25 stations will start working at Cochin on the first day of launch itself. BSNL will invest about 100 crore for the Wimax project in Kerala.
In the first phase of launch, there will 2 plans available. The home plan is of 999 Rs and business plan is of 1999 Rs. Both these plans offer unlimited Internet usage. Both these connections assure a speed of 512 Kbps. In the initial phase it offers a speed up to 2 Mbps. The users of home plan will be given 2 e-mail ids and of business plan will be provided with 5 e-mail accounts. The business plan is configured with a static ip address. The rent for one month has to be given in advance at the time of taking the connection.
No telephone connection is required for Wimax connection. Wimax offer various services such as high speed fixed and mobile internet connections, Voice over IP, Mobile TV, Mobile games,Online games, Telemedicine, Mobile geo location application, video and data based services, virtual networks, distance education services, fixed TV over IP, audio and video streaming etc.
Petrol and Diesel Price hike

The price of petrol and diesel will increase with effect from today midnight. The price of the petrol will have a hike of 2.67 Rs and diesel of 2.58 Rs. The immediate increase in the oil price is in accordance with the proposals in the union budget 2010. As per the budget, the excise duty of petrol is 7.5 %. The central excise duty of petrol is increased by about Rs 1 per litre.
