Gandhi Award for Fr Davis Chiramel, founder of Kidney Federation of India
Kottayam : This year’s Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation’s award for Gandhi Award is announced by the Foundation Chairman Eby J Jose. Fr. Davis Chiramel, founder of Kidney Foundation is the winner of Gandhi award. The award was decided by the committee headed by V.V. Augustine, who was the ex member of National Commission for Minorities. The award includes a Shield, Award of merit and Rs:25,000/-
The committee found that Fr. Davis Chiramel gave an awareness about the Kidney related diseases to the society by donate his own Kidney itself. Fr. Davis Chiramel introduced an idea of Kidney Bank, for Kidney donation which is the 1st similar kind of project in the world itself. By this he shown the Gandhian message by showing his message is his life itself. Fr. Davis is the chairman of Kidney Federation of India also. Now he is the vicar of Pootharackal Parish at Trichur diocese. The award will be presented at the ceremony which will be conducted on the 1st week of May at Ernakulam.
A special seminar will be conduct at Pala on today(10/03/2011), the world Kidney day, by the foundation.

Padma Awards for Malayalees
Indias highest civilian awards, Padma Awards, are given in three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.

ONV Kurup(Prof.Dr.Ottaplakkal Neelakandan Velu Kurup): Padma vibhushan for literature
The Malayalam poet and lyricist, who had received the Jnanpith Award in 2007 and Padma Shri in 1988 is receiving the Padma Vibhushan this year.
His major works include Daahikkunna Paanapaathram (1956), Mayilpeeli (1964), Agnishalabhangal (1971), Aksharam (1974), Karutha Pakshiyude Paattu (1977), Uppu (1980), Thonnyaaksharangal (1989), Bhoomikk Oru Charama Geetham (1984) and Ujjayini (1994).

Robert G Edwards wins Nobel Prize for Medicine
From the words of Nobel Authorities itself, Robert G Edwards’s achievements have made it possible to treat the infertility which is a medical condition afflicting a large proportion of the humanity including more than 10% of all the couples worldwide.
Edwards’s efforts were finally crowned by the success on 25th July, 1978, when world’s 1st test tube baby was born.
In India, around the same time, second test tube baby of the world and the first in India. Her name was Durga and was born through invitro fertilization performed by late Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay on October, 1978.

It is time of celebration and happiness in Kerala. Prof.O.N.V Kurup, the renowned poet of Kerala has got the most precious literature award of India. O. N.V Kurup won the Njanapeedam award for the year 2007. The award got declared today ( 24-09-2010). O.N.V Kurup the gifted poet and lyricist of Malayalam cinema is pride and gem of all Keralites. He is the 5th person from Kerala to win the prime honor for literature.
G.Shankara Kurup(1965), S.K. Pottakad(1980), Takazhi Shiva Shankara Pillai( 1984) and M.T Vazudevan Nair are the other Njanapeedam winners from Kerala.
It is now the golden period of Malayalam cinema and literature. Last week Malayalam cinema won several National Film Awards.
The full name of ONV Kurup is Ottaplavil Neelakandan Velu Kurup. He was born on May 27, 1931
The Njanapeedam award for the year 2008 will be given to Urdu poet Shahariyar.
Poetry of ONV
ONV started creating poetry from his school time onwards. His fist collection got released in 1949 titled “Poruthunna Saundharam”( Defending Beauty).
His other released poetry collections include “Mattuvin Chattangale”( Change the Rules”), “Njan Ninne Snehikunnu”(I Love You), “Neela Kannukal”(Blue Eyes), “Mayilpeeli”(Peacock Feather), “Dahikunna Panapatram”( Thirsty Drinking Bowl), “Aksharam”( Alphabet), “Karutha Pakshiyude Pattu”(Song of Black Bird), “Oru Tulli Velicham”( A Drop of Light). “Agnishalabhangal”(Fire Butterflies), “Bhoomikoru Charamageetham”( A Funeral Song for Earth), “Mrugaya”(Hunting), “Veruthe”( Simply), “Bhairavante Tudi”( The beat of Bhairava), “Aparahnam”, “Sharangaha Pakshikal”, “Marubhumi”(Desert), “Uppu”(Salt), “Thonniasharangal”( Illegible Alphabets”) etc.
His Career
ONV is an Economics graduate and has done post graduation in Malayalam literature. He worked with various reputed colleges all around Kerala including Ernakulam Maharajas, Trivandrum University College, Calicut Arts and Science College, Thalasherry Govt.Brannen College, Trivandrum Govt.Womens College, Calicut University etc.
He also held the position as Kerala Sahitya Academy member from 1982-1987.He was also the chairman of Kerala Kalamandalam .ONV has also released various studies on topics “Kavithayile Prathisandhikal” (The obstacles in Poetry), “Kavithayile Samanthara Rekhakal”( The alternate documents in Poetry”), Ezuthachan( The Great Poet of Kerala)

National Film Awards
National awards for the year 2009 will get declared today ( 15-09-10). The official declaration will be at 4.pm.Ramesh Sippy is the chairman of the 13 member Jury committee. Director Hariharan and Documentary director M.R Rajan are the committee members from Kerala. It is assumed that Amithab Bachan and Mammooty are there in last round competition.
Mammotty is having the advantage of his masterpiece roles in Kuttisarnk, Pazzashi Raja, Palerimanikyam, Pattamnilayile Teevandi etc. Amitabh Bachan is considered for his performance in Paa.
The movies considered in the final round include Paa directed by Balki, Dev D by Anuraj Kapish, 3 idiots of Raj Kumar Hirani. These films are noted for their distinct screenplay, direction.
The Tamil movies considered include Passanga , 13 B and Bommalattam. Music directors considered are A.R Rahman for Delhi 6, Shankar Ehsaan Loy for My Name is Khan, Issac Thomas Kottukapally for Kuttisrank.
The cinematographers considered are P.C Shriram for Paa, Anjali Shukla for Kuttisrank and Rajiv Ravi for Dev D
D Ramanaidu wins Phalke Award
The veteran producer of South India, D Ramanaidu won the greatest award of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This is an annual award given by the Government of India for the life time contribution to Indian cinema. The award will be given to him next month at Goa. Phalke award includes the Golden Lotus Statue and an award sum of Rs. 10 lakhs.
D Ramanaidu was born on 1936 in Andhra Pradesh. His first marking on the silver screen was through movie “ Anuragam” in the year 1963. His first super hit was N.T Ramarao’s “Ramundo Bhimundo”. D Ramanaidu have produced about 130 films in various languages such as Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Guajarati, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, Bengali etc. His film “Surigodu” was nominated to Indian panorama for the year 1993 and his Bengali movie “Asukh” won the National award for the year 1999. He introduced many new directors and technicians to Indian cinema.
His famous works include Shrikrishna Tulabharam, Bobble Raja, Preminchu, Hamar Bedi, Andhra Vaibhavm etc
