SAF Games 2010

The 11th South Asian games will start today (29-01-2010) at Bangladesh. The inaugural ceremony is at 4.00 pm today. The inauguration will be done by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hassina. The SAF games comprises of 23 competitive events in which about 1500 athletes are participating. SAF games 2010 have participants from India, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Last SAF games were conducted at Colombo. India secured first position in last SAF games with more than 200 points. This time India is not planning to participate in cricket competition here. In this 11th edition of SAF games 20-20 cricket is also included

Navayagarima Cultural Fest at Calicut

A cultural fest for the remembrance of the traditional “Mamankam” event in Kerala will be held tomorrow (30-01-2010) at Calicut. This is a historical fest conducted at the banks of Nila River. The event is a joint venture of Re-Echow which is a cultural group association and Kerala Kalaripayattu association.

Mamankam was a Martial art event held years back at the reign of Kings. The fest includes programs such as visit to the historical remains of Mamankam fest, procession and gatherings.

Kerala University Youth Festival Prizes Distributed

The prize distribution of the Kerala university Youth festival was done by superstar Mammootty yesterday. The first prize is won by Mar Ivanios college and the second prize goes to All Saints College. The students of Mar Ivanios college secured a total of 137 points and All saints college with a total of 80 points. The third position goes to SST college of Music with 54 points.

The Kalathilakam of the fest is Ms Madhavi Chandran of All Saints College and the Kalaprathibha is Sreekuttan M.S of University College

GV Raja Football tournament

The Famous football tournament of Kerala, G V Raja football tournament will start from tomorrow. The last tournament was held 25 years ago. It was on that day the gallery broken and great causalities occurred. Trivandrum is now welcoming this football fest after more than 2 decades. The university stadium is fully equipped for this fest. The first match will be held at tomorrow evening. There will be separate galleries for students and woman. The tickets are available at rates of 20,30 and 50 rupees. The chair is available for Rs 50 ticket.

This is the 8th edition of the tournament. The tournament is held in memory of Coloner Goda Varma Raja.The tournament is upto February 15. There will be a total of 19 games. The Kerala teams participating in the tournament are Malabar united, Josco FC, Golden Threads, Trivandrum Eleven, Kerala University and Titanium. The other teams include Vasco and Seas from Goa, Mohun Began, Army Eleven, Manirpur Eleven etc.

61th Republic Day

Our country is celebrating its 61th Republic Day tomorrow. This is a proud moment for every Indians. It was 60 years before on this day our constitution came into force .India is having the longest constitution consisting of 448 articles, 12 schedules and 94 amendments.

The Republic day celebration will be held in tight security measures. The Republic day parade exhibits before the world the strength and unity of our country.

This is an opportunity to show the united strength of Indian people.

Kottayam Food Festival 2010

The Kottayam food festival 2010 starts today January 23. The food festival is organized by Kottayam rubber town round table 121. The venue is at Nagampadom municipal ground. The food fest is for 3 days and will end on January 26.

The food festival includes special stalls on variety dishes. The stalls include dosas, North Indian dishes, Chinese cuisine, different varieties of biriyani, fish specialties etc. All these will attract the food lovers to Nagampadom ground.

Another attraction is the pudding section which includes variety flavors of “payasam” and other puddings. A special chocolate fountain is also made to attract children. There will be cultural programs at evening.

The fest is also supplemented with a shopping and amusement area. A small auto expo section is also included. It is now the time for enjoyment for Kottayam natives.
