The 14th International film festival organized by Kerala chalachitra academy will commence on 11th December 2009. The film festival will be inaugurated by Mrinal zen.Mrinal zen will be presented Life time achievement award by the academy. The film festival will last for 8 days. This is a much waited event for the movie lovers of Kerala. The inaugural movie is “A step into darkness” which is from Turkey. The inauguration will be conducted in Nishaghandi Auditorium. The ceremony honors Oscar winners A.R Rahman, Rasul Pookutty and Gulzar.There are totally 164 movies in the film festival. The 14th International film festival is conducted in 9 stages in Trivandrum.

The first prize of the event is “Suvarnachakoram” and the second prize is “Rajatachakoram”.There are also awards for first director and audience choice too.

The film festival will pay homage to late  Rajan.P.Dev, Murali, Adoor Bhavani,Madavikutty, Shobhana Paameshwaran Nair and K.P Thomas

There are 3 Indian movies in the competition section.”Madya Venal” by Madhu Kaitapram,”Soofi Paranja Kadha” by Priya Nandanan and Road to Sangam by Amit Rai are they. Totally there are 14 movies in the competition section.

In Malayalam film section there will be the exhibition of “Kerala cafe”, “Orkuka vallapoozum”, “Ramanam”, “Rithu”, “Pakal Nashatrangal” ,”Bhoomi Malayayalam” and “Pattam Nilayile Teevandi”.

The much highlighted movie of Malayalam “Kerala varma Pazashi Raja” will be exhibited in International movie section.

A special exhibition of movies directed by Lohitadas will also be conducted.
